I am getting pretty maxed out on cleaning up puppy accidents. Our last puppy was 18 years ago...I can't remember how we trained her. She was housebroken, though, so maybe it will happen eventually. I have read a few suggestions on the internet, but I need to hear from real people with dogs. Did you kennel train? Just keep working at it until the puppy figures it out? I need to hear from you Jenifer, Harlene, Maria? And anyone else with the magic solution. help me!

I totally feel for you - house training was the worse. It seemed like Allie was never going to get the hang of it. Allie has a fear of crates and closed spaces so we never went that route.
We would watch for when she would start sniffing around the floor - that seemed to be a sign. We would also periodically take her outside and wait around until she went on her own. We would bring a treat out with us, so when she did go we would immediately give it to her along with a whole lot of praise. Sounds a lot like potty training a kid, huh?! (Except, of course, we wouldn't teach them to go outside....)
I too feel for you. I absolutely recommend the crate training. It has worked for all our dogs. (Maybe we aren't the quirky ones, jen?) She needs to be kept in the crate almost exclusively the first couple of days, unless you are out side with her. Be sure to take her out every 2 hours at least. She also will need to go out after eating, drinking, sleeping, or playing, as all stimulate the system. Puppies can't "hold it" until at least 14 weeks. The crate also helps them feel secure. If she is still lonely at night you can move the crate to one of the bedrooms or have the kids take turns sleeping near by. Also Jen's right about the treats and praise, we also always say "potty" when Dieter was going to teach him the word, then you can actually train her to go on demand. email me if you need reinforcements, she is GORGEOUS!!
